Disasters, 2, 3, & 4…

Wow! What’s Mother Nature so angry about? The last post I wrote on Aug. 30 was about Hurricane Harvey hitting the Gulf Coast of Texas.  Now here we are not quite two weeks later and Hurricane Irma has torn up the Caribbean and the entire state of Florida, followed close on its heels by Jose and then Katia. That doesn’t even mention the category 8 earthquake in Mexico, or the never ending horrific fires engulfing our friends in Western Canada and the US. Whew! 2017 will be in the record books for sure, but not in a good way.

Can we just go back to watching Disaster Movies instead of experiencing them?

I do realize this is hurricane season, and it’s common to have a number of them hurling themselves around, but WOW! This is bizarre and scary.

(And yesterday was September 11 and the 16th anniversary of that disaster. Here’s a link to offer support for the museum site. info@911memorial.org   You can also  listen to podcasts of people’s memories of that day., Our City, Our Story.)

Amongst the horror are all the wonderful stories of heroism and people helping others regardless of who they are, the color of their skin, or their religion. Those behaviors are the only thing that make these disasters at all bearable.

Plus, as I said on Aug. 30—a good romance book to take you away and to give you hope in a happily ever after.

So into all this mess, on Sept. 21, I’m releasing my sixth book, ACT OF BETRAYAL, Book 3 in the Second Chances Series. Right now, you can pre-order it for $1.99 before it goes live for its regular price of $4.99. It’s on three major sites, Amazon, B & N, and KOBO.  The print will be available soon thereafter. ACT OF BETRAYAL Pre-Sale

The setting for this book is Dallas, but my characters are much nicer than those in the TV show named for the city. Oh, I’ve got a really bad guy, of course, and my usual generational thing going. I did not grow up in that kind of situation, but as an adult that’s the life I’ve experienced. So, family is important to me and that shows up in my stories. When I began writing, I didn’t realize I’d write about older characters or that families would play such a strong place in my stories.

Do you like stories about families or do you prefer reading a story just about the guy and the girl? Do you read or write disaster stories? Have you or your family and friends been impacted by this rash of recent  disasters? I hope you take advantage of all the opportunities to give support, and I hope and pray all your family and friends are okay.

Don’t forget our fall Giveaway.

  1. I’m also wondering about the never-ending stream of disasters. Hopefully, Jose & Katia will alter course and stay in the Atlantic. I don’t think the eastern seaboard (especially the southern states) can handle another major storm/hurricane. Switching gears…Act of Betrayal sounds intriguing. I’m putting it on my TBR list. Best of luck with sales, Marsha 🙂

Hey, Joanne. I agree. At some point, you’ve got to wonder how folks will go on. I heard this morning optimistic forecast that Jose will circle on out into the Atlantic. Please let that be so. Thanks for you support on the new book. Each new book is like the first one–all the butterflies and worries about how the book will do. Thanks to for RTing. 🙂

    Hi,
I enjoy reading honest to heart good stories regardless of whether it is about a man and woman or a family. For me, counts the intensity of the growth in each relationship and especially if I can relate to it in some kind of way.

Good luck with your pre-launch. I hope you offered a special price on Amazon Germany because I want to take advantage of it too.
    All the best.
    Shalom aleichem,
    Pat

    Hi,
I just checked Amazon Germany. There is a special pre-order price of €1,65. Thanks. A lot of writers forget to include Amazon Germany in their special orders. This makes me happy. I’ve signed up for a copy.

I’m so glad to read this, Pat. I tried to check and I couldn’t see if it was in Germany or not. LOL Technology is a challenge for me. Thanks so very much. And don’t forget to enter our contest. 🙂

Hi, Marsha! While on vacay in Colorado, the smoke from the fires in the West were pushed our way. We woke to an ugly haze and a burning smell in the air. We have had interesting weather.

Hey, Vicki. I remember being in Colorado a couple of years ago for RomCon and when you stepped outside you could smell the smoke. It’s a scary thing to experience. Hope everyone can catch a break soon. Thanks for stopping by.:)

Best of luck with your release Marsha, it sounds like a great read!
Ah, yes, all the disasters, I like to think they’re there to remind us we’re all human, and to showcase the kindness and caring in our hearts, regardless of who we’re reaching out to, or why.

Hey, Kathryn. Thanks.. Think I’m a little anxious about this one. I so agree with you. The amazing kindness that comes out when we experience a tragedy is definitely the silver lining. Wish it didn’t take a tragedy to bring it out in us. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  6. Congrats on your upcoming release, Marsha! The storms and fires are scary but I’m grateful we came away with a minimal loss of life, it could have been much worse!

Hey, Jacquie. Glad you’re okay. Must be terrifying in a different way than with rising waters. Irma would’ve been much worse if it had hit Miami head on as first predicted. Terrible, but as you say could’ve been much worse. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
