“Date Jack?” I asked ever-so-casually as if I never even considered the possibility. The bravery seed expanded and fortified me. “Where did you get the idea? I’m clueless.”
She’d been crying, her eyes red and swollen, her voice husky, and yet she stood there before his friends, unbowed, ready to grab a dragon by the tail if it meant protecting her daughter. He’d never seen anyone braver, or more compelling.
I held her tightly as my eyes welled with tears. I was so grateful and proud of this brave young woman.

The walnut wall panels gave the room a sober feel. His dad’s many awards and medals for bravery sat on the bookcase to the side of his large cherry desk.
Sarah believed in him even when he didn’t believe in himself. Her strength and bravery had taught him that.
