A package arrived at the door today. Now, if you’re against online shopping or gadgets and gizmos, turn away. No part of this blog is designed with you in mind. If you’re like me, though, you’ll know that giddy feeling of euphoria when you’ve abstained for long periods of time, and finally given in.
I convinced Fluffy to stop barking as if he were a hound from hell, but by the time I answered the door, no person remained in site. What did was a giant box from Zullily that I’d almost forgotten ordering. Also, it was late at night and it was almost as if I were in a dream, so until the box showed up, I really didn’t remember it. So, double surprise.
After throwing a dog bone to Fluffy I opened the package quickly and began unwrapping my treasures. An Angry Mama from Zulilly, guaranteed to clean my microwave. I tried it and it worked, but if my cleaner isn’t as impressed by it as I, I’ll just hide it away when he visits. Ditto the gadget that’s supposed to clean window cracks. I believe it will make the job easier for him though, so if he’s not against it, he can use them.
Next came the bento boxes. Since eating outside by myself or with my bubble of one, seems one of the few things we can do during these days until all, or at least enough of us are immunized, for herd immunity, are here, cute Bento boxes seemed a good idea. Now apparently the act of eating together is dangerous, even outside. Maybe Beacon Hill Park, where dogs can roam free, in the off-leash area. I picture small sandwiches, possibly cucumber or maybe salmon, smoked salmon with cream cheese. Celery sticks cut small with a few grapes or maybe orange segments. Mango, maybe with yogurt. Or not, I do love mango.
Next come the prep pods in 2 Tbsp size or 1 cup. I can now buy dip mixes and split them up so I’m not trying desperately to eat a cup of tzatziki or humous before the label says it’s done for. Also, I can make a batch of pesto and put it into small portions since I rarely want a cup of pesto at a time. On the other hand. if I make soup or jam or many other things, I’ll be able to split it up into one cup portions, which again, make more sense for me.
And last, but not by any means least, is the babycakes, cake pops maker. I bought this because I could make six or nine babycakes to satisfy my sweet tooth without binging on sugary delights. And it’s not that I don’t like cakes, pies, donuts or anyone of a myriad of sweet delights. It’s just that eating a whole cake by myself is too much of a good thing. This seemed the perfect solution. Although it seems strange that the recipes all seem to be for six or seven dozen cake pops, which by anyone’s measure is not the amount wanted for just one person. I suspect if I look online, I’ll find recipes for smaller batches of babycakes. Until then I’ll hold off on trying out my babycakes, cake pops machine, which is too bad. Because to be honest a dozen or so cake pops or donut holes, whichever you want to make, sound really, really, good.

Haha! I’m much more likely to be puzzled by kitchen gadgets. I’ve wondered through a place like William-Sonoma totally confused by some of the items and clueless as to what they might be used for!

Hi Pat, enjoyed your blog. It is such a nice surprise when a package is on the doorstep. Though I love gadgets and online shopping, I’m not cooking as much as I used to. So, I haven’t bought anything for the kitchen.

I’ve tried several gizmos and one was particularly disappointing-a long skinny spatula. The Rada knife sharpener was fabulous.

Hey, Pat. I love catalogues. I used to live for all those to arrive in the fall leading up to kitchen. Even now, I love to get the Stonewall Kitchens catalogue. LOL It takes restraint not to order everything. I do actually order their Maine Wild Blueberry Jam every year. Kitchen gadgets not so much. We have a very small kitchen. If I can anything new, I have to get rid of something. Great post, Pat. I’ve shared.

So true! It can be so exciting when that package you’ve been waiting for arrives at your door! And sometimes a letdown! I’ve been satisfied with the few kitchen gadgets I’ve gotten online, but once I ordered a cute little round purse from amazon, and redieved a cute little rectangular purse instead. That wasn’t so bad, though – I liked the rectangular one better!
