So yes, it is my BD today, but we’re so early in the year, I decided this could be a Happy Birthday post to all of us reading this.
Are birthday’s important to your family? Or are they something you just skip over in horror at the number of years you’ve accumulated?
My family has always made a big deal about BDs, usually singing the song to the BD person a several times a day. (My husband has already sung to me twice. He’s a very good guy.)
We had two pups, Scout and Simon, and they always sang along with us. We’d call and wake up our grown daughters, and the pups would join in. Charley, our current fur baby, doesn’t hear, so he’s not much of a singer. Scout was really outstanding, matching her barks to the beat. Unfortunately, this was before I thought to record on my phone. In fact, I’m not sure my phone would’ve done that. LOL

I set a goal to reach my goal weight by this BD. I got very close. I need to lose 1.1 more pounds. I will get there, but probably not tomorrow because I’m going to enjoy cake and wine and steak tonight. One January I did Whole 30 which allowed for no sugar, and so being the rule follower I am, I didn’t eat cake or drink wine on my BD. Now I regained all 13 pounds I lost that month, and I vowed never to skip cake and wine on my BD again.
So, Bob will bring home steak, creamed spinach, and garlic mashed potatoes from one of our favorite restaurants. (It’s just not worth it to me to eat in a restaurant. I live in Texas, the land of “Don’t tell me what to do.” We have a lot on unvaccinated and unmasked folks everywhere. And it’s way tooooo coooooold to eat on the patio, which I really enjoy doing even before Covid. 🙂 )
As to cake, I’ve got a free Nothing Bundt Cake BD coupon to use. It’s actually a bundlet. Don’t you love that word? It’s at most a two person serving, but I’ll buy a separate bundlet for my husband. He has a really big sweet tooth. Think I’ll get red velvet. 🙂

Do you set goals at the beginning of a new section of time? Year, month, 6 months? I like to set goals and give myself a deadline. Without a deadline, I let the time get away from me. How do you celebrate birthdays? At my age, I’m thrilled to continue to have them. For you younger people, let me assure you life only gets better. Oh sure there are a few challenges, but I wouldn’t go back to being a young mom with kids for anything. Those were really hard years or when I was an elementary school principal and worked 7 days a week. No, I’m blessed beyond measure to have friends like you, a great husband and family, and to be able to write books that readers enjoy.
So happy birthday to me and to all of you. I hope and pray this is a great year for us all.
SECOND ACT, Book 1 The Second Chances Series is on sale this month 99 Cents through Jan 22. So hurry. 🙂

My birthday IS actually on New Years Eve! When I was younger there were a few Really big parties. It’’s kinda like the whole world is throwing you a REALLY big birthday party when you’re in your twenties .Most years it’s been a combo of say dinner out but usually earlier in the evening and then if they were doing something like Victoria celebrates New Years. – wasn’t called that but they had various venues around town with entertainment, food and drink culminating with fireworks in the inner harbor. Now it’s quieter but there’s usually dinner out or two or three (we have to show proof of vaccination, plus drivers license for picture ID and Covid cancelled that the year before so. – only one this year but very nice. At this point I really do think every day is a bonus! I’d maybe take better care of myself if I had a do over but we know more now. Celebrate whatever your age. You’re only —- once!

Hey, Pat. I so get what you’re saying. One of the Ss-I-L has a BD on Halloween. He’s said for the longest time he believed everyone was celebrating him. So year, go for it. Canada has done so much better with the pandemic than many places in the US. I love to eat out in restaurants, BD or not, and I really miss those times. Thanks so much for stopping by and for sharing your experiences. Be safe. 🙂

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Marsha. wishing you a wonderful day! So right about having cake on your birthday. 🙂 Our family celebrates with cake even though some family members can’t have sugar or milk. We have learned to make our own special cake.

Growing up, birthdays were not made a big deal of, but I love making them special for my kids! For a while, we even celebrated half-birthdays because my son is a summer baby, and that was a way for him to be celebrated at school. Happy birthday, and enjoy that cake! Bundtinis and Bundlets are our new fave! And everyone definitely needs their own! 🙂

Hey, Darlene. That’s a great idea about the half BDs. I love Bundlets. I can’t afford to have a whole cake around, because I love, love, love cake and would proceed to eat it all. This works just perfectly for me. Thanks so much for stopping by. 🙂

Hey, Vicki. It’s my favorite food group, too. Just don’t enjoy it nearly as often as I’d like. I can’t eat cake several times a week–well, I certainly could,–but the scale would really scream. LOL Thanks for stopping by.
